It has more than 23 kinds of free amino acid including aspartate, threonine and serine in which lysine and methionine often absent in rice and beans are abundant. Medicinal use and research Pleurotus ostreatus naturally contains lovastatin. Studies have shown they contain up to 2.8% lovastatin on a dry weight basis. Research with Pleurotus ostreatus demonstrated activity against various cancer cell lines and animal studies have shown an anticancer effect.
